The Concord Road Covered Bridge in Smyrna is going through a renovation, which should be finished by the end of 2017.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners unanimously agreed to pay $802,959 to Suncoast Restoration and Waterproofing, the low bidder.
They will repair installing steel-stiffening frames inside the bridge, cleaning and painting the steel, repairing one of the bridge supports. The company will also replace the guardrail and repair the roof and exterior siding.
The Concord Road Covered Bridge was built in the 1800s and sees 7,000 – 10,000 cars on it every day. It has the highest traffic count of all covered bridges in Georgia combined, according to Cobb County.
